Sigiriya
Sigiriya, also known as the Lion Rock, is one of the most famous historical and cultural landmarks in Sri Lanka. It is an ancient rock fortress located near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province.
Sigiriya was built in the 5th century by King Kashyapa, who made it his royal palace and capital. The fortress rises about 200 meters above the surrounding plains and is renowned for its advanced urban planning, water gardens, and defensive structures.The site is also famous for the beautiful Sigiriya frescoes, the Mirror Wall, and the impressive Lion Gate, which once featured a massive lion-shaped entrance.
